The financial assistance has helped the families to cover ALL the expenditure incurred in terms of the annual school fees, tuition fees, uniform dresses, shoes etc. , the purchase of books , notebooks, workbooks and all other related educational materials prescribed by the school for the academic year 2011-2012.

The children, two boys and two girls have used the opportunity and are studying very well and ranked high in their respective classes.
The parents are very cooperative and are immensely pleased since the sponsorship has released them from local money lenders in whose clutches they got entangled every year at this time.

The financial assistance has helped a single parent, the mother in one case especially since she carries the family maintenance all alone. Her mental stress is greatly reduced.

We are thankful for the generosity of the Oakleys in this regard and wish them well. We hope that they would be able to continue the
sponsorship as long as possible.

The award has been given to GOODWILL for setting up Community Technology Centres for children and young women in low and middle income families in and around Madurai, India. The aim of the project is to create Community Technology centres in Madurai, India, to teach women and children in low to middle income families about new information technologies. It aims to train young women and children, so that they can be incorporated in the labor market in local organizations or even set up new businesses and computer centres.

During the period 2006-2010 as many as 2500 children and young women have successfully completed the digital training. The Centre has established four Community Technology centres in four locations within the project areas catering to the needs of many poor and disadvantaged rural children and young women in Madurai East and West village Panchayat union blocks,Madurai,Tamilnadu,South India. In the first phase(2006-2007), 500 children and young women have successfully completed their digital training in two Rural Community Technology centres .

This is a multi-stakeholder partnership involving three actors namely business, nonprofit and government. The business partnership is offered by Panda Software through the award of grants, monitoring and evaluation of the project while the govt partnership is provided by Jan Shikshan Sansthan{Madurai},Ministry of Human resources development, Government of India through accreditation and certification of the digital learning courses, performance management and award of certificates to successful candidates. Nonprofit partnership involves GOODWILL’s role in project implementation, performance management, reporting and documentation.

In recognition of our achievements in providing digital opportunities for children and young adults in low and moderate income communities through our Community Technology Centres, supported by Panda Software International(Panda Security)Spain, the INFOSYS BPO Limited,(www.infosys.com/bpo) ,a global IT company,Bangalore,India has selected our organisation for the donation of 10 computer systems under the CSR-computer donation program 2010.

Under the Panda IT Aid project 2006, GOODWILL has established two Community Technology centres in two locations within the project areas catering to the needs of many poor and disadvantaged rural children and young women in Madurai East and West village Panchayat union blocks,Madurai,Tamilnadu,South India. During the period 2006-2009 as nearly as 1511 children and young women have successfully completed their digital training in our Community Technology centres.
The computers donated by INFOSYS BPO Ltd have been added to our Community Technology Centres located in three places within our project area,which are being used by children and youth under our ‘Non-formal Employment Training project’.It is indeed a feather in GOODWILL’s cap! We are really proud of this achievement!

This slide show contains photos of Dr.J.Christopher Daniel,Executive Director and Mrs.Kala Christopher,Honorary Secretary,Goodwill Social Work Centre who visited the United Kingdom in 2008 at the invitation of Mr.Robin Rowland,Founder and Chairman,Global Links Initiative,U.K.The purpose of their visit was mainly to attend a meeting organised by the GLI(UK) to review the GLI(UK)-GOODWILL(India) Tamilnadu GLI networking partnership initiative implemented in the state of Tamilnadu,India during 2006-2009.The Christophers also visited a number of UK-based projects and held discussions with GLI social entrepreneur Networkers. To quote from the news titled “GLI Welcomes Christopher and Kala of Goodwill Social Work Centre to the UK” published on GLI’s website(www.glinet.org,)dated 14th November 2008 “It was also a renewing of friendships as quite a number of those UK Networkers have been inspired by their visits to Goodwill and other GLI Networker projects in Tamilnadu”. Goodwill Social Work Centre places on record its deepest sense of gratitude to Mr.Robin Rowland and his GLI team for the invaluable help and support so graciously extended to Dr.Christopher and Kala Christopher for their visit to the United Kingdom in October 2008.

She did a power point presentation in her school assembly about her visits to our projects with her parents Mr.Justin Blakebrough and Ruth Blakebrough and her sister,Elen.Kezia and her mum, Ruth Blakebrough did a stall selling things for the Goodwill Social Work Centre. Her mum had made some marmalade to sell, Kezia helped pot up some bulbs and a friend of theirs baked lots of cakes. It was a really good evening and we raised funds for GOODWILL. Kezia had made a poster with some photos to show the work of the Goodwill Social Centre and lots of people asked questions.

With the donation raised by Kezia through free will contribution by her classmates, cake sale and stall selling, the Goodwill social work centre has purchased educational materials,children’s toys and children’s books for our Childhood enrichment and development centres in the project areas.

Thare Machi uses cheap reliable DVD technology and connects with community groups at grass roots level to produce 50 audiovisual lessons in the languages of the world’s poor.

The Goodwill Social Work Centre, led by Dr Christopher Daniel and Kala Daniel, will be leading the dissemination of the lessons in the Madurai region and will be helping Thare Machi to gather feedback on the usage and impact of the lessons. Dr Christopher and Kala are running a workshop for their staff at Goodwill in the use of the extensive range of Tamil lessons. They are then running a workshop for the first tranche of 16 new partners who were signed up on Clive and Katie’s recent trip to India. On top of all of this amazing work, Kala and the staff at Goodwill have just completed new translations into Tamil of three important, but difficult topics – Becoming a Man, Becoming a Woman and Safer Sex for Teenagers

As part of our Children’s rights through artwork project being supported by ART VENTURE,Singapore, Goodwill social work centre ,a registered Indian NGO based at Madurai,India has formed ‘Children’s rights through artwork groups’ of girls and boys who are in the 7-17 years of age with a view to building a holistic understanding the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child and various children’s rights and the issues which affect children,combing arts with a study of the UN convention on the rights of children as a way to promote children’s understanding of their legal status in society and developing art skills, improve self confidence and enhance creative and enjoyment in the arts and to know of their rights to childhood.
